Program Notes-
When I wrote this piece originally, it was to fulfill a theory assignment for an art song. My
experience writing this piece though inspired me to expand the work. I worked with my good friend and talented vocalist Holden Seward on the first work and wanted him to be able to premiere the updated work. The text is from an Emily Dickinson Poem titled “‘Hope’ is the thing with feathers.” The positive message of endless hope is something I wanted to highlight with the beginning motif
throughout the piece.
